About THE PASS
THE PASS is anonymous by design. No names, no faces — just honest reviews of San Diego restaurants, scored the same way every time.
Why anonymous?
Anonymity is the whole point. When nobody knows who’s reviewing, nobody performs for the review. We get the same meal, the same service, the same room you’d get — because as far as the restaurant knows, we’re just another table.
No press invitations. No comped tasting menus. No relationships to protect. Just dinner, twice, paid in full — and then the truth about how it went.
Just a true foodie
THE PASS is written by someone who genuinely loves restaurants — the food, the hospitality, the places that make you feel something. Not a critic with an axe to grind, not an influencer chasing freebies. Just a person who eats out a lot, pays attention, and writes it all down.
The lens is simple: would I send my friends here? Would I come back with my own money? Every review answers those two questions, and the score shows the work.
Why you can trust it
- We pay for every meal. Anonymous, unannounced, full price.
- No byline, no favors. Restaurants can’t buy coverage, re-scores, or list placement.
- The methodology is public. Every weight and rule lives on the methodology page.
- Two visits before any score above 85. One great night isn’t enough.
- Factual claims are documented. Prices, hours, and dish names checked at the time of each visit.
