The published standard

Here’s how a meal becomes a score.

Seven categories. One hundred points. Completely transparent.

A restaurant is an entire sequence of promises: the reservation, the welcome, the room, the meal, the response, the goodbye, and the bill.

The Pass weights food most heavily while honoring every detail that shapes the experience. The score measures how completely the experience delivers.

Questions

Methodology FAQ

Can a restaurant request a review?

Suggestions are welcome. Editorial judgment guides selection, timing, treatment, and score.

Can a score change?

Yes. Rankings carry a last-verified date, and material changes to the experience can trigger a revisit and re-score.

Why publish category weights?

A public rubric lets readers understand the verdict, compare priorities, and hold the publication to a consistent standard.

What earns “Approved at the pass”?

Approval reflects our editorial conclusion. The published scorecard and written verdict explain exactly why it was earned.

Anonymous by design

The experience is the story. The reviewer stays in the background.

The Pass is a written-first hospitality publication from an anonymous true foodie and lover of places that make you feel something.

The premise

Hospitality is something you feel.

The best places align hundreds of small moments—the welcome, the room, the pacing, the meal, the care, the goodbye—into an evening that stays with you. We review that feeling in full.

The promise

Measured fairly. Written clearly.

A small, anonymous editorial presence keeps the focus on documented visits, public standards, and prose that tells you whether the experience is worth your time.

The lens

A true foodie. An honest guest.

The Pass comes from an anonymous lover of food and hospitality, drawn to places that make you feel something. Care, delight, ease, and memory are the point.

The starting line

San Diego first. Then the world.

The beachhead is one city, reviewed deeply enough to become useful. The standard leads every step of expansion.

The Pass is written for the guest deciding where to spend a night—and looking for the complete experience behind every dish.

The complete-experience lens is the edge. Consistency serves better choices—and better hospitality.
